I was starting to feel a little worried that, with a full time job in (taco) hell, I wasn’t accomplishing much, but as I was writing an email to a photographer that I wanted to assist for a few jobs, I realized that I had accomplished a lot more than I thought (and I even left some things out)!
“This past summer of 2011, I graduated from Edinboro University with a BFA in applied media arts and a concentration in photography, with a minor in German language. During school and since graduating, I have worked for several photographers in the area, including Jennifer White of Acacia Studios and Coady Photography at Presque Isle Downs. I have also been involved in freelance work for the Jefferson Educational Society, Erie County Council, Engel O’Neill Advertising, The Committee to Elect Regina Smith for State Representative, as well as weddings, events, and portraits. I will also be teaching studio lighting classes at the StartUp Incubator in Edinboro next month.”
I think I just need to cut down my hours in !!!HELL!!! and slowly work more and more at doing what I love… figuring out exactly what it is about photography and art that I love, and I will have to learn to love business in the process ;)
And I know that consistently, I have always wanted my own studio, so I will make it my personal, totally realistic (right?) goal to have one by August 2012 (a year after graduating)!! I’m going to start figuring it out now!

Two freelance jobs fell into my lap today, one in Philadelphia and one in Erie. The Philly job will be a few weekends every year, and the Erie job could turn into a full-time gig! So amazing! Maybe this will open up some job opportunities outside of the Erie area!
On another note, my old roommate Leslie and I will be doing AT LEAST ONE ARTISTIC THING PER WEEK. Even though we both work full time, it SHALL be done! ;) There is a lot of strength in doing things together and motivating each other (which is why weight watchers works so well..), so I am going to post stuff on here, unless I am incredibly unhappy with it.
Most artwork is not meant to be shown publicly anyway. A great majority of the art we make is just part of a learning process that brings us to the few pieces that are really worth sharing! I think it’s interesting to look at other people’s old Deviantart accounts (and my own) to see everything we made in the learning process as we were growing up in high school and the beginning of college, compared to where we have arrived at today. It’s pretty amazing!
